Join us in the fight against cancer with Sues Crew - AZ Annual 30 Mile Walk!

Here are a few important FAQ's about Sues Crew:

When is the walk?

The next walk is Saturday, May 16, 2020 The walk is always scheduled for the 2nd Saturday in May.

Where does the walk start/finish?

We will start and finish in the parking lot of White Mountain Drywall in the industrial park in Show Low. The address is 1520 E Commerce # A, Show Low, AZ 85901 - See Sues Crew Route Map here.

What time does the walk start?

Please arrive no later than 5 am. We will take a group photo together and enjoy a special opening ceremony. Walkers will have an opportunity to get a map, a list of contacts to call in case of any needs during the walk, a water bottle, a protein bar, etc, at this time. Then, we will begin walking together at 5:30 am.

What is the route of the walk?

Please click here Sue’s Crew Route Map to see a map of the route. Each walker will receive a map at the beginning of the walk. We walk along side Highways 60 & 260, and Show Low Lake Rd. It is very important that all participants walk on the left side of the road (against traffic) at all times. The half-way point is at Brown & Russo Insurance in Lakeside, where we will turn around and repeat the route in reverse, back to the finish line at White Mountain Drywall.

Are registrants required to walk the entire 30 miles?

No! Participants are encouraged to register and join us by raising awareness and funds, and walk at their own pace as far as they would like. You may walk 1 mile, 2 miles, 5 miles, 15 miles, 20 miles, 30 miles, or any number of miles in between. We encourage you to set goals for funds raised and distance met, and go for it! We believe that If you keep in mind your reasons for participating, you will surpass any goal you set for yourself.

How can I get back to my vehicle after the walk, or if I don’t walk the entire 30 miles?

The finish line for the walk is at the same location as the starting point. So, walkers who complete the 30 mile walk will end up back at the place we started. For those who wish walk less than 30 miles, Sue’s Crew volunteer staff members will be available to give walkers a ride back to their vehicles at any point during the walk. Each walker will be given contact info for the staff members on the morning of the walk. These staff members will be patrolling the route and helping walkers with any needs they may have. Feel free to call them!

What is the fundraising requirement for each walker?

There is no minimum fundraising requirement. We encourage you to set your own fundraising goal, and then tell your friends, family members, coworkers, and acquaintances know your reasons for walking. There is no minimum amount required for walkers to raise in order to participate in the walk. Walking 30 miles is not an easy feat (pun intended), and neither is fighting cancer! As you are getting ready for the walk, remember why we are walking. Ask others to sponsor you with a flat amount, or pledge an amount per mile. Keep in mind that our goal is to help as many people as possible, as much as possible, by raising as much money as possible.

How Much money do you make?

We anticipate 300 registrants for the walk this year! If each walker raises an AVERAGE of $500, we will be able to donate$50,000 to each of our beneficiaries, for a total $150,000! That is a very obtainable goal, and we can do it! All we need is to believe in ourselves and remember why we walk!

Do I need to bring my own water and snacks?

You are welcome to bring your own water and snacks. There will also be refreshment stations at the beginning, half-way point, and several points along the route. Items offered at the stations will include water, power drinks, protein bars, fruit, etc. You may refill your own personal water bottles/ hydration packs at these stations.

How long does it take to walk 30 miles?

The average human walking speed is 3 miles per hour. At this rate, it would take 10 hours to walk 30 miles. Considering breaks taken to stretch, drink, eat, and use the restroom, past walks have been completed by walkers in between 10 and 13 hours.

Will there be places to use the restroom during the walk?

Yes! There will be at least one portable toilet located every 3 miles along the route. In addition, there are several businesses along the route that welcome walkers in to use their facilities.

Where does the money raised go?

100% of the funds raised are donated to our 3 beneficiaries:

Summit Healthcare Cancer Center

American Cancer Society of the White Mountains

American Cancer Society of Cumberland, Maryland

What percent of the money raised by walkers is spent on advertising, refreshments, portable toilets, and entertainment for the Sue’s Crew walk?

0%, None, Zero, Zilch! Every dollar raised is donated to Summit Healthcare Cancer Center, and the American Cancer Society. The generous people and businesses of the White Mountain Community make this possible by donating their time, talents, and resources.

Will the walk be canceled if the weather is bad on the day of the event?

No! Cancer affects us without regard to the weather, and we will fight back with our 30 mile walk whether it’s sunny and warm, cloudy and cold, wet and windy, snowing and blowing…you get the idea. We are in it to end it, rain or shine! (See the past event photos on our FaceBook page for proof).
